GGPoker has introduced Ocean KO, a new tournament format that combines progressive knockout poker with random bounty multipliers and a 14-tier evolution system.
Ocean KO launched on October 2, 2026, retaining the basic structure of a Progressive Knock-Out tournament while changing how bounty rewards are calculated. Every knockout triggers a Bounty Wheel that applies a random multiplier to the eliminated player's bounty value.
For players in Tiers 1 through 10, a knockout can return as much as x400 the bounty value. At the highest tier, Legendary Shark, a single knockout reward can reach $1.5 million or more.
How Ocean KO Builds on the PKO Format
In a standard Progressive Knock-Out tournament, part of a player's buy-in enters the regular prize pool and the other part becomes a bounty.
A typical PKO uses a 50/50 split, excluding fees. In a $100 tournament, for example, $50 goes into the regular prize pool and the player begins with a $50 bounty.
When a player is eliminated, half of the bounty is paid immediately to the player responsible for the knockout, while the remaining half is added to that player's own bounty.
Using a $50 bounty as an example, the knockout would normally pay $25 in cash and add another $25 to the winner's bounty. The tournament champion eventually collects their own bounty as part of the final payout.
Ocean KO retains the progressive structure but introduces random multipliers and tier-based bounty progression.
How the Ocean KO Bounty Wheel Works
Each elimination in Ocean KO triggers the Bounty Wheel. The system takes the eliminated player's full Bounty Value and applies a randomly selected multiplier determined by that player's tier. For Tiers 1 to 10, multipliers range from x0.4 to x400.
The resulting Random Bounty is then divided equally:
- 50% is credited immediately to the player's GG wallet.
- 50% is added to the player's own bounty.
For example, eliminating a player carrying a $50 bounty with an x2 multiplier produces a $100 Random Bounty. The player receives $50 in cash, while another $50 is added to their bounty.
If the multiplier is x1, the same $50 bounty produces $25 in immediate cash and another $25 added to the player's bounty, matching the payout structure of a standard PKO knockout.
The reward calculation depends only on the bounty and tier of the eliminated player. The winner's own bounty, chip stack and tier do not affect the calculation.
Multipliers Can Also Fall Below the Displayed Bounty
Ocean KO does not guarantee that every knockout will pay at least the displayed bounty amount.
Most Bounty Wheel spins land at x1 or below, according to GGPoker, while the largest multipliers are comparatively rare.
If a $50 bounty receives an x0.4 multiplier, the Random Bounty becomes $20. The player receives $10 in cash and another $10 is added to their own bounty.
The remaining $30 stays within the tournament's bounty pool and contributes toward funding larger multiplier payouts.
GGPoker states that the multiplier distribution is structured so total bounty prizes match the overall bounty pool over time. Individual tournaments can finish above or below that figure, which is why bounty pools are displayed as estimates in the tournament lobby.
Players move through 14 Ocean KO tiers as their bounty increases. Tiers 1 through 10 scale according to the tournament buy-in, while Tiers 11 through 14 use fixed bounty thresholds. That means eliminating a Shark in a $10 Ocean KO can generate a knockout reward of up to $200,000.
Legendary Ocean KO Tiers
The final four levels are designated Legendary tiers and use fixed bounty thresholds regardless of the original tournament buy-in.
The maximum knockout reward is calculated from the starting bounty attached to each tier. Players enter the Legendary levels once their bounty exceeds 50 times the tournament buy-in. After that point, the fixed Legendary thresholds apply.
Multiplier ranges become narrower at the higher tiers. Multipliers below x1 remain possible even at Legendary level, meaning the displayed bounty does not guarantee a specific knockout payout.
Tier Progress Depends on Bounty Size
Ocean KO tier movement is determined by bounty value rather than the number of players eliminated.
A knockout that does not increase a player's bounty beyond the next threshold leaves that player in the same tier.
Players can also skip levels if a large multiplier or high-value knockout pushes their bounty across several thresholds at once.
Chip position does not determine tier status. A short stack can hold a Legendary bounty, while a tournament chip leader can remain at Fry level. Tier progress also resets after every tournament and does not carry over into the next Ocean KO event.
| Tier | Name | Bounty / Starting Bounty | Multiplier Range | Maximum KO Reward |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Egg | $5 starting bounty | x0.4 to x400 | $2,000 |
| 2 | Fry | $6 | x0.4 to x400 | $2,400 |
| 3 | Fish | $7 | x0.4 to x400 | $2,800 |
| 4 | Shrimp | $10 | x0.4 to x400 | $4,000 |
| 5 | Crab | $15 | x0.4 to x400 | $6,000 |
| 6 | Turtle | $25 | x0.4 to x400 | $10,000 |
| 7 | Octopus | $50 | x0.4 to x400 | $20,000 |
| 8 | Dolphin | $100 | x0.4 to x400 | $40,000 |
| 9 | Whale | $200 | x0.4 to x400 | $80,000 |
| 10 | Shark | $500 | x0.4 to x400 | $200,000 |
| 11 | Legendary Octopus | $10,000 | x0.5 to x50 | $500,000 |
| 12 | Legendary Dolphin | $50,000 | x0.6 to x10 | $500,000 |
| 13 | Legendary Whale | $250,000 | x0.65 to x2.5 | $625,000 |
| 14 | Legendary Shark | $1,000,000 | x0.8 to x1.5 | $1,500,000+ |
Starting Tiers Can Vary by Tournament Structure
The starting Ocean KO tier depends on the portion of the buy-in assigned to the bounty pool.
In a standard 50/50 Ocean KO tournament, the starting bounty equals 0.5 times the buy-in. All players therefore begin at Tier 1, Egg.
Bounty-heavy formats can start at a higher level. GGPoker gives the example of a $100 Ocean KO using a 20/80 split. Each player begins with an $80 bounty. Because that amount is above 0.75 times the buy-in but below the full buy-in, the field starts at Tier 3, Fish.
Each player's Ocean KO tier icon appears beside their seat. Selecting the icon displays the player's current Bounty Value along with the minimum and maximum amount available for eliminating them.
The tournament lobby also includes a Live Status panel under the Field tab, showing how many remaining players occupy each of the 14 tiers. Bounty Wheel results are displayed publicly at the table when a knockout occurs.
How Multiple Knockouts, Split Pots and Disconnections Work
Ocean KO includes separate procedures for several tournament situations. When one player eliminates multiple opponents in the same hand, the Bounty Wheel spins separately for every eliminated player. Each calculation uses that opponent's individual bounty value and tier.
The combined Random Bounty is then divided 50/50 between the player's wallet and their own bounty.
When two or more players split a pot that eliminates another player, the Random Bounty is divided equally among the winners. Each player's share is then split between immediate cash and bounty growth.
Bounty Wheel results are determined on GGPoker's server when the knockout occurs. If a player disconnects, the cash portion is still credited and the bounty is updated, including any resulting tier change.
Ocean KO Champion Receives Two Final Spins
Winning an Ocean KO tournament produces two Bounty Wheel spins at the end of the event.
The first comes from eliminating the runner-up and follows the normal 50/50 distribution between cash and the champion's bounty.
The second is the Final Bounty Spin. It uses the champion's updated bounty amount and tier after the final knockout.
Unlike a normal knockout reward, the Final Bounty Spin is paid entirely in cash. Ocean KO tournaments are available through the GGPoker tournament lobby.
The format is also eligible for GGPoker Staking where local regulations permit it. Stakers share cash bounty rewards and final tournament payouts according to their backing percentage.
