Cash game regular Jamie Shaevel has advanced to Day 8 of the WSOP Main Event for the first time. The Southern California native has cashed eight times in this event since 2011, despite rarely playing tournaments outside the Commerce Casino.

The World Series of Poker Main Event often serves as a grand stage for tournament specialists, but the 2026 edition continues to highlight the deep structure that allows cash game players to thrive.

Among those advancing to Day 8 is Jamie Shaevel, a Southern California native who has built a remarkable track record in this specific tournament despite rarely playing the tournament circuit.

Shaevel has now advanced to Day 8 for the first time in his career, putting himself in a position to compete for life-changing prize money and a potential championship bracelet.

Shaevel is not a traditional tournament player. His profile on Hendon Mob reflects just 35 total live tournament cashes dating back to 2009, which averages out to roughly two cashes per year. However, a significant portion of his success is concentrated in this single prestigious event.

Since 2011, Shaevel has managed to cash in the World Series of Poker Main Event a total of eight times.

This statistic means that nearly a quarter of all his career live tournament cashes have occurred exclusively within the Main Event.

His selectivity has become even more pronounced in recent years. Since 2017, Shaevel has recorded only six tournament cashes overall, with four of those results coming directly from the Main Event.

While Shaevel's tournament appearances are sparse, his time away from the tournament floor is not spent away from poker.

Shaevel remains a regular presence in the poker community, maintaining a consistent playing schedule throughout the year.

Rather than traveling for tournament series, Shaevel focuses his efforts entirely on cash games. He plays regularly at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles, California.

This extensive cash game experience has clearly translated well to the deep-stack format of the Main Event, culminating in his historic run into Day 8.
