Flashback Friday: Daniel Negreanu And Phil Hellmuth Lock Horns

Friday seems like a good day to take a walk down memory lane. Go back to the time when High Stakes Duel II was in motion. Two legends from the poker industry locked horns holding the same hole cards and then it was battle of the giants at the live felts.
Daniel Negreanu versus Phil Hellmuth
The GGPoker ambassador, Daniel Negreanu was dealt with Cowboys and Phil Hellmuth had Kings too. Now, it's quite easy to understand that they are headed for a chop unless the board throws in a twist. But who likes to see a chop. That’s a happy ending the seven-time WSOP bracelet winner did not wish to have.
‘KidPoker’ was all-in preflop when the pot was over $200,000. He literally begged the board for more diamond cards as the flop brought Td Ad 2d. 9h on the turn kept Negreanu’s hopes alive and the Canadian pro kept asking for a diamond card and it finally came when the river card was 8d.
WSOP bracelet winner was visibly fuming and we understand why. But was this the only showdown between these two poker maestros? Not really.
At this time the 17-time Both these pros got into a heated argument at the table as to who is the greatest poker player in the world. Hellmuth stated that he has the most number of bracelets and makes him the best.
But Negreanu did not agree and said that Phil Ivey was the best the world has seen. Negreanu said that Ivey is better than Hellmuth at No-Limit Hold’em and other formats of the game. Hellmuth shot back that he was better at NLH than Ivey was.
Fast forward to an interview, Negreanu added insult to injury. The GGPoker ambassador said that if he were to ask Ivey about his take on the debate, he would probably say that Hellmuth was the best player because he doesn’t care and will not give into his ego.
Well, what can we say, about this back and forth between two of the most notable players in the poker universe.
Negreanu won his seventh bracelet in WSOP 2024 and Ivey also added to his bracelet tally by scooping his 11th bracelet, the only player to have 11 gold bracelets. As for Hellmuth we know he is hunting bracelet 18.
