GGPoker Ambassador Daniel Negreanu missed his first cash of the 2026 WSOP, busting close to the bubble in Event #2: $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em 8-Handed when his pocket aces fell to Ryuta Nakai’s flopped set.

The 2026 World Series of Poker is barely two days old, but the summer is already delivering plenty of bad beats. The latest high-profile player to head to the rail with a tale of woe is none other than GGPoker Ambassador Daniel Negreanu.

The poker legend was eliminated from Event #2: $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em 8-Handed, falling agonizingly short of the money.

With the money bubble rapidly approaching, Negreanu looked well-positioned to secure his first live cash of the summer.

However, the cards had something else in store for him in the $5,000 buy-in event. Negreanu found himself in a devastating collision, running pocket aces into the flopped set of Ryuta Nakai, which effectively ended his run.

Looking Back at Negreanu at the 2025 WSOP

While this early exit slows his initial momentum, Negreanu is no stranger to overcoming slow starts at the series.

Last year, it took Negreanu until Event #9 to record his first official cash, but that initial deep run proved to be a doozy.

He narrowly missed out on capturing an eighth career WSOP bracelet, ultimately securing a runner-up finish in the $10,000 Omaha Hi-Lo Championship.

That second-place finish was a cornerstone of a highly productive summer. It marked one of 13 live cashes for Negreanu at the 2025 Series, and was one of three six-figure cashes the poker legend scored over the course of the festival.
