It is not the best feeling to finish runner-up when you are so close to winning a Super High Roller Series title. Well, this happened to 11-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Ivey. The poker legend took the second position behind winner Adrian Mateos.

The Spanish pro shipped Event #6, a $25,750 No-Limit Hold'em Mystery Bounty for $162,000 along with $165,000 in bounty money. Ivey took home $413,000 in winning which included $300,000 from the bounties he collected.

Mateos became a frontrunner in the 2024 Global Poker Index (GPI) Player of the Year by nailing the $25,750 No-Limit Hold'em Mystery Bounty event.

Even though Mateos won the trophy, Ivey took the biggest pay cheque after the tournament ended in a three-way all-in between Ivey, Mateos and Quan Zhou.

Mystery Bounty Tournament

The Mystery Bounty event had 40 entries which included several well-known players from the international circuit. Sorel Mizzi was the first casualty on the final table. He finished sixth for $32,000. Sam Greenwood took fifth place for a payday of $42,000. Seth Davies was out in fourth for $59,000. The stage was set for an interesting three-handed play.
Ivey held a considerable chip lead over Mateos and Zhou when the game was three-handed. But the Poker Hall of Famer’s lead faded away when Mateos doubled up.

The tournament ended when Zhou went all-in with his remaining 15 big blinds with A6. Ivey, who had K4, had the bottom pair, but Mateos was sitting with a flush draw. The Spaniard improved on the turn and the river did not change anyone’s fate on the table.

The Mystery Bounty win marks his third top-three finish in the first six events of the series. His total live tournament earnings are pretty close to $50 Million as per The Hendon Mob.

Mateos has surpassed $10 Million in cashes in a single year which remains to be his career-best performance.

Ivey too is having a stellar year which began with him securing his 11th bracelet at the 2024 WSOP. The poker dynamo is 11th in the All Time Money List and sits with over $46 Million in total live earnings (The Hendon Mob).
